Jordan possesses one of the most organized Sharia court administrations in the Arab world, overseen by the Supreme Judge Department (Da’irat Qadi al-Quda). Under Law No. 15 of 2019, an adult woman enters marriage with her guardian’s execution; however, Article 18 provides rapid judicial recourse for Adhl. The law rigorously protects the bride’s financial rights, mandating premarital medical screening and transparent contract registration.
Courtship Protocols and Vetting in Jordan
Jordanian society is anchored by the venerable custom of the "Jaha." The suitor’s family assembles respected statesmen, tribal sheikhs, and community leaders who visit the bride’s home. The head of the Jaha delivers an eloquent proposal speech ("Al-Tulba"). In response, the bride’s father or representative gives his assent, and only then is Arabic coffee consumed to seal the honorable covenant.
